When to Replace Your Mower Blade Bolt

A worn blade bolt can make blade changes unsafe. Learn the signs it’s time for a new Toro OEM fastener like 145-5695.

The blade bolt (or blade retaining bolt) holds the cutting blade snug to the spindle. On many Toro and Lawn-Boy decks, the current OEM fastener is 145-5695, replacing older numbers like 117-5270 and 112-8789.

Replace the bolt if the head is rounded, threads are damaged, the shoulder is worn, or you can’t get a clean torque on reinstall. Never reuse a bolt that has stretched or been heavily impacted.

When changing blades, inspect the bolt, washers, and blade arbor area together. If the blade has struck a rock, assume hardware may be compromised and replace it.

Always torque to the manufacturer’s specification and use the correct washers. A loose blade is a serious safety hazard.

You can order the Toro 145-5695 blade bolt from BUY4LOW alongside a replacement blade if you’re doing a full deck service.
